Beatniks, Fred Savage, and Faygo

Remember all the posts where I said there would be weekly updates? Those were filthy, filthy lies.

Here have a comic!

That was me realizing that I look like a beatnik. I might as well start writing poetry and snapping instead of clapping now. Also, playing the bongos and wearing turtlenecks and berets.

That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge about beatniks, actually.

Oh I made a thing:

It is TOTALLY AWESOME: THE FRED SAVAGE APPRECIATION BOOK.

I spent an hour making that on Friday night with my copier, which really goes to show what kind of social life I have.

Anyway, it's a four page book featuring nothing but pictures of Fred Savage, and my commentary. My creepy commentary. Actually, everything about this is pretty creepy, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY IT IS FUNNY.

It should also be noted that my sense of humor is really, really stupid.

I know what you're thinking now: You're thinking that this post is almost over. WELL I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU, SIR: It isn't. We still have to talk about...

FFFFFAAAAAAAAAYYYYYGGGGGOOOOOOOOOO

BACKSTORY: My father had taken me to the corner store because he wanted to get a lottery ticket. It was the unsavory corner store down the street that has bars on the windows. Everytime I go in there, I feel like some guy is going to bust in with a gun AND SHOOT ERRBODY. Anyway, I made my way to the beverage selection. There was a lot of beer and Sundrop, but amongst it, I saw a shining beacon of hope: FAYGO.

I gazed at it: it's smooth, bold logo, it's proclamation of "BIG 24 oz.", the fact that one bottle has 390 calories...I was drawn in. Clearly, I knew what I had to do.

I bought three.

Each bottle was later taste tested by me, Emma, and Katelyn, and we came to the conclusion that: It tasted pretty swell (except the red one, which tasted like someone mixed Kool-aid and cough syrup together. Katelyn loved it though.) So yes, juggalos have taste buds, but they still have no taste in music.

Okay, I think that's enough nonsense for today. Toodles!

Solaris

I got the book Solaris for Christmas! I haven't finished it yet, but I drew something based on it (with my new ~brush pen~):
My scanner kind of jacked it up. The top half of it is kind of OK though!!

stuff

We have to bring in pictures of our favorite characters to the next SEQUENTIAL ART CLUB meeting, so I drew Ozu (from The Tatami Galaxy) and Daria. I might also draw Enid from Ghost World, but I am really lazy.

Also, I started working on my "choose your own adventure" book. Progress is pretty good, I guess. Mapping out the stories and their branches makes my head hurt, though. I find it hard to comprehend, really. But I will get over it!

spook 2 cover

So, SPOOK 2! I finished the cover for it. Now we just need to work on material. I better finish the time travel comic, and some other stuff.

I was also thinking of making a "choose your own adventure" type book, as a side project. Maybe.

aww yiss

oh my gog, WHAT is that....

It's SPOOK magazine's first issue, THAT'S WHAT IT IS!!!
Yes, for once in my life, I actually had the initiative to complete something. It took like 3 months but whatevah. The point is, it's done, and I'm happy! Thank you to errbody who has something in it! And to those who don't: There will soon be a second issue, and rest assured you will probably be in it.

I have ten books printed, so not everyone will get one just yet because I'm sending some off places. But you will all have one. Eventually. Or at least get to look at it.

NOW WHO WANTS TO SEE MORE WEBCAM PICS OF ME POSING WITH IT?

i hate my scanner

So, the scanner only scanned part of Bowie. But, most of you have seen Bowie IRL, so this doesn't affect you much. It still bugs me, though.
Anyway here's a Bowie:

Man I love David Bowie! (platonically of course)

COLORS

I just finished drawing a picture of David Bowie (that I will post tomorrow), and I realized something; I can't use COLOR.

I mean, I know how the primaries and the secondaries and the color theory stuff works. But, everytime I try to use a wide array of colors it looks like gook. Especially when I try to do bright, neon-y stuff. It's like I always just end up choosing colors that look awful together. Then, I'll try to fix it by panicking and adding more colors, AAAND it's a downward spiral from there.

This is probably why I stick to only using monochromatic schemes, and the primaries (never secondaries, I think they are gross together).

On a somewhat relevant note, Jesus I hate contrasting colors with a passion. Why do we ALWAYS use that scheme in art class? If we did nothing but primaries all year, I would be SO CONTENT. Heck, why do we even get assigned color schemes in art class? I WANT TO DO WHAT I WANT /whine. But, some people just don't get them, I guess. Just like they don't get contour lines. Dear God someone get me out of my art class pleeeaasseee

PS: I totally used primaries on David Bowie

cover

Welp guys, I finished the cover for SPOOK!

It's the only thing that's going to be in color, so I went all-out. All-out LIKE A MANIAC.

SPOOK is almost complete, by the way. All that's left it Marley's advice column, Kathleen's mystery picture, and some technical nonsense. ARE YOU EXCITED? I am. This is exciting.

Boo!

why why why

So, I've decided to start a series of watercolours. Watercolours of ghostly schoolgirls. Many of you saw the first one (and refer to her as Nubs, sending me into a blind frothing rage (PS: I promise not to call you K-fed anymore, Katelyn, lmao)).

Anyway, when I drew that one, it was like; "Oh yeah, pencil to paper, bam bam look at that".

Then tonight, I started on another, and it's like, "HOW DO I ANATOMY????"

NOTHING LOOKS RIGHT! It's all disproportioned, or awkwardly angled, or WROONNNGGG!!! I hate it. Feel my seething frustration.

Tomorrow I will try to draw them again, after I have calmed down. Hrrrhhggnnnhhgdffkdgld;h

Please enjoy this lame and poorly draw depiction of my day so far!

Now I'm going to go do productive things. Namely, homework.

a house!

Please enjoy this drawing of an old house!

Ref pic: http://fuckyeaghosts.tumblr.com/post/1180293779#notes

I kinda ended up "squishing" it in my drawing, oops. I still like it though.

Also, you may have noticed that I also drew this house in my sketchbook. All I can say is; I really like this house.

Kay bye!
